Research and Special Topics

Research Projects

In each area of study there is provision for a Research Project (carrying 3 semester-hours of credit) to be undertaken. Students who wish to include a Research Project in their course of study must submit a proposed programme of work to the appropriate Faculty member. The Faculty member is responsible to ensure that the appropriate pre-requisites have been met, that the student has the ability to complete the project satisfactorily and within the time frame, and that effective supervision and resources are available. The Research Project may take the form of academic or field-based research on a particular aspect of the study area, or it may be across several study areas. It must have clear aims and focus, and be able to be completed in not less than one academic year.

Special Topics

In each area of study there is provision for a Special Topic to be included in the course offerings. Special Topics may vary from 0.5 to 3 semester-hours of credit. The purpose for this arrangement is so that the College can avail itself of special visiting lecturers who can provide instruction and/or training in a special topic directly related to the degree outcomes but not currently included in the curriculum.
