Sessional Lecturer in Counselling
Dr Ida Marais has worked as a research psychologist at universities in New Zealand and Australia for almost 30 years. Her research has focused on psychometrics and she has published in international journals as well as co-authoring two books. Dr Marais got involved in counselling when her church set up a counselling centre. She added to her qualifications in Psychology a Masters degree in Counselling and has been working as a professional counsellor ever since.
What does Ida love about her job?
Ida loves her contact with students and that she can have a say in how counsellors are educated. She also loves the ongoing learning that is possible for herself at PBC and its unique interdenominational culture.
How does PBC equip students to serve God’s purposes in our generation?
People suffer in many ways on our generation: in the same way as people have always suffered but also in ways that are unique to our generation. PBC equips counsellors to help people using age old means like the Scriptures as well as using techniques backed up by the latest social and medical science research.
