A missional hermeneutic starts from the premise that our entire Bible arose from and bears witness to the missio Dei, the mission of God. Read from this perspective, the biblical stories of Israel, the church and the nations become a single, broader story of God’s mission through his people—a people he calls, prepares and empowers through his Spirit to join him in bringing about his purposes for all his creation. In Jesus Christ the past, present and future of this broader story come together, as the one who brings God’s purpose to its climax and completion. The Bible not only tells this story, but also invites us to join in it and live it out as faithful readers.
