Contemporary Chaplaincy Program - Training People for Ministry in Non-Congregational Settings

PBC is proud to be working in Partnership with Waverley Abbey College (UK) in offering the Australian Contemporary Chaplaincy Program.

This program is a global leader in training people for ministry in non-congregational settings in the Contemporary Western World. It was developed in 2020 under the leadership of Dr Keith Foster and has been adapted to an Australian context by Dr Shannon Hood.

The program is made up of 4 units, each of 6 weeks duration, taken consecutively:

  • CP551 An introduction to Chaplaincy
  • CP552 Models of Chaplaincy
  • CP553 Chaplaincy in Context
  • CP554 Personal and Professional Care of The Chaplain

The course can be completed from anywhere in Australia. There is no requirement to attend physical classes, however students will participate in a 2 hour online seminar each week.

The topics include “respond to client needs” and “work with people with mental health issues” ensuring that the requirements for the Australian Government School Chaplaincy Program is met.

The course can be taken for credit towards a PBC Award in Ministry (undergraduate or postgraduate) or it can be completed as a professional development activity.

Upon completion of the course, graduates can apply for Membership with the Association of Waverley Abbey Ministers.

“The thing I loved most about PBC was the environment. We have a Christian community on campus, support from the lecturer, lovely students and fellowship. It has encouraged me to feel part of the community.”
